Hello there, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I cant find anywhere else to put it. If it is in the wrong place please move it to the right section thanks :)

Anyway, ever since I had reformatted and installed Vista Ultimate x64 again. Everytime I boot into windows i get this error come up with the message

The process cannot access the file 'C:\windows\system32\Syst32.exe' because it is being used by another process.

Then when i click on "more details" I get this:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

It's been bugging me for days and I'm not sure how to fix it :( Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? Also I'm not sure what process is using it and whats trying to use it either and I really dont want to have to reformat my pc again but I will if I have to.

Thank you for reading :)

Hello converge,

Welcome to the Forum.

Is this new? has it just started or is it like this since the install?

If it was a bad install........... Re-install

If it has just started try a system restore;
Tutorials - Vista Forums

It might be an idea to scan your system for viruses

I hope this helps

\windows\system32\syst32.exe is not a standard system file. However, given that it's apparently trying to masquerade as one, given the location and name (anything beginning with "sys" generally puts most people off tampering), there's reason to suspect malware.

Unfortunately, a web search suggests that your machine has been compromised:

ThreatExpert Report: Backdoor.Win32.IRCBot.gen, W32.Spybot.Worm, W32/Sdbot.worm.gen.a..

Of course, it's possible that you've installed some .Net app that just happens to have the same name as an item of known malware, so further anti-virus scans would be a good idea if you want to be sure.

If you're using that PC to earn a living or to work on important documents, the safest option would be to completely flatten it and to start from scratch using known-clean media to reinstall everything. Otherwise, it's impossible to be sure whether the malware left other trojans or similar nasties hidden somewhere.

Good luck with it.

Thank you for the replies :) I'm gonna back up some important files and do a format on my vista and start again just to be on the safe side.
