stuck at "identifying"

OK, here's the deal. I own an HP pavillion dv6000 laptop with a Vista Ultimate x64 system on it. As I was browsing the internet the other day, I accidentally bumped into the button that switches the network adapter off manually. I turned it back on immediately, but the computer was already disconnected from the internet. This is when it started to say "identifying". So I went downstairs, restarted the modem and the router (since that has always been the most successful solution to problems like this) and came back. The computer was still identifying.
The funny part is, that all the other computers are working just fine. Even after the multiple restarts. There's another laptop connected, an iPad, iPhone, and a PC which is connected directly through a cable. I don't know what to do, I feel like I didn't do anything wrong.
I tried the solutions the system has offered, tried restarting the PC, restarting the network adapter, the IP settings in TCP/ IPv4 are set to automatic, I restarted the Network List Services, and other combinations of these procedures in different order. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this? Thanks!!!

Just an addition: I just restored my computer back to factory settings via system recovery and it is STILL "identifying" even though all the other devices are working fine. Is there a way for the internet provider to block a specific computer? I mean, I just can't think of any other explanations.....

Hello, if you have restored to factory defaults, you probably need to re install router software via ethernet connection for it to use router . Also, verify that networking drivers in Device Manager are showing as updated and installed.
