Strange Wireless problem

:oHello.

I recently bought a new computer and installed Vista 64 bit.
My problem is my wireless connection. My friends computer uses a Netgear router and his computer runs on XP to which I try to connect for internet access. When his computer is turned OFF, I can access the internet no problem. However, when his computer is ON, I can not connect!!

Some information about my computer:

-Vista 64 bit, service pack 1 and is completely up-to-date
-All hardware drivers are up todate with no hardware problems
-DLink has good reception with 1.20 driver (D-Link WMA 510)
-Router computer is XP, up-to-date drivers. Computer uses Netgear router

Can anyone tell me why my wireless connection drops when the computer with the Router is turned on?

Thanks guys ! :):)

Perhaps it's a sharing problem or maybe a firewall is blocking access. I can't really help with networking so just throwing out ideas for you to look at ;)

I dont think it is a problem with your computers but the configuration on the router.
Look at the settings for internet sharing. It sounds like the wired computer is taking presidence over the wireless computer.
Try linking them both by cables and see if that works(just for diagnostics.)

Why would moving to Wales make a difference ;)

Have you tried roy69's suggestion yet and connected them both via cable ? Maybe it's a Master Browser issue ;)
