Startup repair - version question (Vista)

So my vista install is hosed and my original disk loads the startup repair but finds nothing wrong. I am wondering, the original install was Vista (64 Prem) , then I did the Sp1 update and continued receiving updates though I never did a full SP2.

I'm wondering if I need a newer install disk then the one I have for it to do the repair?

Where would you get the image with SP2? You can take an image from your computer and the restore to your computer, even on a new hard drive, but not from one computer to another.
If it were me, I'd back up, the just reinstall. Get all the SP's and updates (updates are included on the SP's) then restore my stuff. Although, time comsumming, this is probably the best way in your cirumstances. Unless you can explain to me what you mean by use an image with SP2.

I am not sure where I'd get an image. I saw a company Neo something that sells images. Problem is I can no longer get into Windows including safe mode. I tried a system restore via the install disk but it froze at the end. So yeah, image is no longer an option ( wish I had). I'd like to avoid a re-install but it's becoming clearer that may not be possible.

If you do not have hardware problems, ie. memory, hard drive, etc. A reinstall is the best way to go. In the future, back up your hard drive once a month. You can use free software like Macrium Reflect for the back up.
