Welcome to the forums!

Here is a link that should help on what services are needed and not needed. Scroll down a little ways and you will find what is default and what is safe to disable. It is pretty well self-explanatory.

If you are talking about services then JaxMacFL has given you the link.
If you are asking about the Startup file in System Configuration then look at this.

View attachment 3620

It can be a place to start.

You shouldn’t disable services using Vista since it automatically shuts them down when there not being used plus its more responsive and runs better on defaults, Microsoft changed the way services worked on Vista because people where always disabling things they actually needed for the OS to run.

After setting up hundreds of Vista machines I have found its better to leave them using defaults, Trust me when I say You Don’t need to change the Services one bit, Vista takes care of them itself unlike XP and you should only change them if they are causing severe problems while using your computer.

Agreed with the 'don't play with it' approach. Computer => Performance => Advanced will tell you if there's a specific problem hindering start up.

One thing you may want to do is invest in a defragment utility that does the system files on start up. This made a noticable difference on my own system.
