I have a GW M6307 2gigs ram with VHP 32 bit. Over the last several days on start-up the computer will show the GW screen for about 150 sec. then boot normally. I did do a Java update just before this started and have since uninstalled and reinstalled Java with no problem. I ran malware bytes(no issues) SFC ( 2 files repaired from log) and CHK disc. After shutting down for 10min. and a start-up the GW logo was normal(6 sec) with swift boot. This lasted 2 days. I ran SFC again and that appeared to fix the issue again for 2 days.
There appears to be nothing wrong anywere,in fact the box works great. All my drivers and bios are up to date.
It's more of a PIA then a problem....What would be the possible causes for the box to hang on the GW logo for so long??

This may be a software issue but I would personally suspect that you may have the start of a hardware failure. It may be memory or a hard disk that is starting to give errors, during the POST, so you may want to schedule a chkdsk of your boot drive at start-up, and also a memcheck

Thank You Barman58. I took your suggestions. All appears OK with the test. Do you think if I reflash the bios it might solve the issue? Everything I look at.. Logs, performance, event views ect. nothing shows up as a problem.

There is normally an option in the bios - either something like fast boot and/or display logo at start-up. It may be worth switching off the fast boot option and/or the display of the logo.

This should allow you to actually see what is happening during the POST process, if nothing is obviously causing the delay then if there is a new bios available it may be worth while flashing this.

Another thing to try is to disconnect all non essential peripheral devices. If this improves things you can then re attach each device one at a time to locate the one causing the delay.

One thing that I've seen to cause this type of delay is a card left in a card reader or disk in a cd or dvd drive

Barman58...You were right 1st time around. It is hardware related. The DVD drive appears to have a intermittent problem. I begin to check all devices and discovered the DVD issue. When the drive is working the hang on the GW logo does not happen. It's always great to get to the root cause of problems.Having followed your experienced advice root cause is a done deal. I feel good about that and so should you.Think I"ll have a drink..... Have one on me!! Thanks

My Computer

Glad to hear you have things working :D
