Start up/Boot problem, HDD possible culprit

My desktop doesn't boot up properly because it stalls at "memory runs at dual channel interleaved" and at "Boot from CD/DVD" it stalls again. Also I've tried the seatools diagnostic it stalls at "Scanning for devices on Intel ICH7..." I have tried using the startup repair and nothing really happens. Also I've tried Ubuntu and it stops saying that it gives up.

Straight away this seems like a memory issue to me. Do you have 2 x 1GB sticks, 1 x 2GB stick or 4 x 512MB sticks?

Also I've tried Ubuntu and it stops saying that it gives up.

So it boots into Ubuntu?

2 x 1GB sticks but I performed the memory test from ubuntu and it passed the test. Plus ubuntu didn't install I only used it without installaion and it decided to quit. On the other I have yet to completely install ubuntu completely. Perhaps I should install it.
