Solved Start Menu Woes

Hi,

I have just purchased a new computer (a Dell Inspiron 545) but I am having a problem with the recently used program list in the start menu. Random programs are showing up in there without me using them and the programs I do use aren't getting added. I have checked the settings and both of the necessary checkboxes are ticked. So I had a search on this forum and found a post that advised you to change a file in the registry at this address :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

however in the registry editor treeview the Policies folder is empty.

Could this be what is causing my problems?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have tried this already but number of recent programs to display is already set to 9 and the registry value is already 3. Have you got any more suggestions?

Have you also tried what's in the Warning box at the top of that tutorial to see if your Recent Items folder is correct?

If it is, then you might see if toggling Recent Programs and Recent Items off and on from the Start Menu properties may reset it.
