start menu issues

I applied this to fix the missing clear recent list problem in start menu:
"Clear Recent Items List" option missing when you right-click on the Recent folder

However, the problem returns frequently and the option is missing again.

I also have this other problem where every time I reboot, the "store and display recently opened files" is unchecked and therefore the feature does not show up in the start menu. I have to re-check it everytime after a reboot. This is very annoying.

I'm using the following software:
Vista 64 Ultimate w/ SP1
CCleaner
Wise Disk Cleaner
Wise Registry Cleaner

Note: this problem was always happening prior to installing both Wise software. Also, I have always used CCleaner without such problems, for over 2 years. On a side note, it seems the problem *may* have started around the time I installed SP1.

That method did not work. I rebooted after applying the reg file and recent items was missing / unchecked again.

Did you also apply the other fix first, then this one?

If yes, then see if running a sfc/ scannow command to find and fix any bad system files that may be causing this. This tutorial will show you how to.

If it still does not work, then try creating another administrator user account to see if it works in that one. If it does, then delete the old account from within the new one and use the new one instead. Be sure to select the Keep Files option when deleting the old one to copy the contents of it's user folders to a folder on the desktop of the new account. This way you can copy it back to the new account if you wanted to.

I already did sfc/ scannow , disk check and vista repair (no errors found). Problem persists.

I'll try the new account option.
