Standard VGA Adaptor Problems

I recently upgraded my graphics card from a Radeon 9600 to 3650 and that is where I struck problems.
The standard VGA adaptor isn't working or became corrupt and when I installed the
Radeon driver, the system froze after a short while.
I have tried deleting adaptor, but that also removes "Display Adaptors" from the
Device Manager, so even if I install the 3650 driver, it won't appear as installed.
I have tried doing a clean install of Vista but the same thing occurs. On the other hand
I have no problem with Windows 7 RC1 where everything works perfectly.

What purpose does the VGA serve anyway since I still have a display without it working?

Yes, otherwise it wouldn't work on Window 7. (Dual boot)

it is important to have you graphics driver installed, the driver is optimised for the user, it gives a cleaner picture at a higher resolution without causing much slowdown, the standard VGA adaptor driver cannot do this, it is generic...

but it is ok to delete the standard VGA graphics adaptor from device manager, you want to do that so you can install the windows driver for your graphics card... since you have already attempted to install the drivers before. just go ahead and delete it and then click on the spyglass to locate the hardware and re-install automatically

I have heard somewhere, that you have to have the VGA in place before you can install any other driver. Unfortunately, either VGA driver is faulty or there is something stopping it installing properly. When I install the Radeon over this, that is when I strike problems.
As I pointed out, a clean installation of Vista doesn't change anything.

ok, looks like a few files might be corrupt on your copy of vista then, i have attached the 32bit version of the standard vga graphics adaptor drivers, unzip and put them in a folder thats easy to find, then open up the device manager and update driver software on the standard vga graphics driver and click on browse, point it to the folder the drivers are in and try reinstalling your graphics card again after restart.

(if it doesnt allow you to do this, then copy the drivers into c:\windows\system32\drivers, uninstall the vga adaptor and then restart)

Hi MrNeeds,
Thanks for the driver but I was unable to update via the Device Manager as it said
the driver didn't need updating.
I tried deleting the old driver but even with admin rights, it wouldn't let me do it.
What's Microsoft's problem?
Any more solutions you can think of?

When you install the driver choose the option to browse to the driver files then choose the files provided by MrNeeds.
