Speakers do not work

Hi,

I recently switched from XP x64 to Vista x64, and my speakers (nor headset and mic) no longer work correctly on this computer. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, updating, and changing all the settings multiple times, but I couldn't get them to work correctly...

The only time I can get my speakers (and headset) to make any sound at all is by plugging the speakers into the "Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out" plug. However, they play only as the center(left) and subwoofer(right) then. (This is while the Speaker Configuration is set to "5.1 Speaker", and I only have 2 speakers and 1 subwoofer.)

I can't seem to get any sound out of the "Front Speaker Out" (green plug).

I'm using 2 left/right speakers that connect into a subwoofer, which uses only 1 plug into the computer.

I was able to get both speakers and headset to work at the same time when using XP x64 and Windows7, but nothing works in Vista. (I cannot recall if I was using the "Front Speaker Out" plug when they were working, but I have tried all other plugs in Vista.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first of all, you need to set your speaker configuration to stereo, not 5.1. The bass will automatically be picked up through the default stereo channels, as illustrated here:


now, to get the front speaker out working, it doesnt have to be in the correct jack output to work, you can plug it into any jack and select it as the front speaker out. as illustrated here:

I have gotten the box that allows you to check which jack it is previously, but it no longer shows up when I plug in my speakers/headset.

^that box hasn't shown up in vista.


***Also the "Enable auto popup dialog, when a device is plugged in" box in Connector Settings is checked.

you should be able to double click on the jack that you are using to change its settings though, you dont need to plug it in. just double click on the jack that is in use and set it to front speaker out.

Nothing happens when I double click it, and I cannot select and click the "Audio Device Settings" from right clicking.

I've been using the High Definition Audio Codecs (Software) from the Realtek site and the sticky here, which are the drivers that installed correctly but didn't have the window pop up so i can get the sound working...

i tried the other downloads ont he site (AC'97) and that only gets to a certain point in downloading before the Windows Secrurity box pops up saying it cant verify the publisher and choosing to "Install the driver software anyway" option just has the download idle for a moment and the popup reappears, never finishing the download.

So i don't know what else to try...

Anything new on this? I'm having this problem too. Is there anyway to reassign the jacks so that I can use the rear pair jack for the front speakers?

Here's a possible work around.

First, disable automatic jack detection in the Realtek control panel app. Unplug all connections to the sound jacks, reboot and then connect the speakers again. This works for me. Sux, but it works.

Back again, I had reinstalled XP for a bit, but was hoping I could get Vista to work, but alas, still no sound...

I tried disabling what I believed to be the automatic jack detection, but that didn't work either...however, I'm not sure if I did it correctly; could you please post screenshots, or tell me where I am to disable it?

Its happening to me too. Never seen anything like this before.... I just installed a new motherboard and I now have no audio. Tried 50 different things, nothing helps. Tried Realtek, tried Razer Barracuda (c-media) and about to try Creative (blah)

Totally weird. My speakers just disappear each time
