Speaker Troubles...... I need to run this query by some one...

Hi I have a 60watt speakers running from my laptop...They are working great, except for when I boot and shut down... They run on electricity so they are higher powered than regular speakers.. They are plugged into the headphone jack....

I took em off for a test to see if it was my computer and I used my headphones as well and they were fine... Could it be a grounding issue, or static from a burst of static running through the jack causing the pops... It only pops once or twice on boot up and shutdown...

I was wondering getting a USB to jack cable would help my situation? I see them on ebay cheap... like 99c free shipping...

Thank you for time...

Hold on... you're saying that during bootup and shutdown you hear popping noises coming from your speakers, right? I'm not really an expert on hardware, but I think this is normal behavior. I used to use some big external speakers for my desktop computer and I got a few pops out of them at similar times. I personally think you're probably right about it being a burst of static or something similar. I think it's just part of what your computer does during startup and shutdown when it's checking to make sure everything is working correctly. If you're worried about hardware damage or something like that, I think it's fine. If you're just worried about the noise because it bugs you, I suspect your usb to jack idea would fix it, although I'll admit I've never heard of or seen something like that. But I guess if you think that'd work, go for it. But I don't think its anything you need to stress about as far as damages go.

I see the USB jack on ebay for 99c free shipping....I will try it and let you know how it goes...It will take a while to get it cause Im broke right now...We only got 49c in our account lol and my pay was yesterday...lol...
I owe my sis in law some money for buying me a brace for my hand...Carpel Tunnel....It bites....
I am glad to hear that my problem is not isolated... As I said, I think it is like a power surging the connecter causing the pops.... Thank you for bringing me to realizing that I am not alone......

It makes me relieved, its just annoying in the middle of the night, with my sister in law in the next room and with the air vent joining rooms...lol..........

If you like you can friend me it is cool, I consider you a friend anyways....

You can friend me too you know :) I'm pretty busy so I might get around to it eventually, but it's easier to just accept from someone else. And your computer is being shutdown/ turned on in the middle of the night? You could just unplug them when you turn of your computer and then plug them back in after it's all booted up, that'd avoid any loud noises caused at those times.

the popping is the drivers being unloaded and loaded during startup and shutdown, if it bothers you too much about maybe damaging the tweeters then simply turn them off before shutdown and turn them back on after windows has loaded. It really is nothing to worry about though.
