SP1 Available through Window Update

I don't know what methodology is being used for distributing it this way, but SP1 was available for me this morning on Windows Update. I have made no modifications to anything, so this is definitely the real deal.

My brother has 32-bit, and did not have the option of SP1. Could be only in the offing for x64 systems at this point. I don't know.

In any case, I expect your wait is very short if you have any wait left. Please consider that before downloading from questionable sources.

Just started to download it. x64. Looks like the final version. :D:D:D

Microsoft spokesperson

We’re very pleased with the progress we’ve made with Windows Vista to date. Since releasing SP1 to manufacturing on February 4th, we have made Windows Vista SP1 available to beta testers, MSDN and TechNet Plus subscribers, as well as Volume Licensing customers. Today, a build of SP1 was posted to Windows Update and it was inadvertently made available to a broad group. The build was intended only for our more technically advanced testers, and was meant to only be offered to those with a specific registry key set on their PC. For general availability, we are still planning to make SP1 broadly available in the mid-March timeframe.

Lame alright as I got computers flooding in and can't keep up with the work load. And non of them got it via the Trick. Also not all of them are OEM versions.
We should be able to send the Bill to MS and not the poor customer. MS lost a lot of customers out of this stuff up. I know have 5 People that want to install Linux instead of Windows

no you don't if u have the refresh 2, that is the FINAL, its just i wanted to uninstall to say that i actually got the official release
If this was the final release than why does it say this is a beta when i check view details in my updates? also this download if i can remember was only 170 or so mb large, that is alittle to small to be the full final. should i unistall this mix up?

Arrrg. The ugly pirate is here too.:) HeHe. Well, I am avoiding KB935509 like the plague as always. Maybe that's the reason it hasn't been pushed on either of my 64-bitters. Maybe the do-yourself-version will show up on Technet too. It wasn't there the last time I looked.

I think that's actually the right size. If you look around, a lot of things suggest they did a decent job keeping the size of this service pack down.

We'll just have to see if this one is right or not. I'm going to stick with it for the moment. We may later discover that they left a typo in the description (things like that have happened before). I really doubt they would have enabled me to get a beta without signing up for a beta or tricking Windows Update in the registry. All I did was turn on my computer and download it, so I suspect it's legit, even if they goofed.

People, I'll tell you again...there are 2 torrents I personally know of that are actual FINAL SP1 VISTA, I have downloaded it (size 1.13GB 32/64 bit) funny thing I found that link here...it is not a BETA version ...FINAL is KB936330.
Also, that hot fix(KB937287) people are talking about I also installed it...both the hot fix , and the SP1 install flawlessly, so I guess I am extremely lucky on both?
I attach 2 screen shots for your viewing.

Vista SP1 RTW coming March 18
By Emil Protalinski | Published: February 20, 2008 - 04:00PM CT

On February 4, 2008, Microsoft announced that Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista had hit the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) milestone, but it would not be available for public consumption until sometime in March due to certain driver issues. Microsoft has actually already given some users SP1, which is no different than RC Refresh 2, but the Release to Web (RTW) is still in the works. Assuming Microsoft fixes the prerequisite update issue in time, the exact date for the SP1 Release to Web is reportedly March 18, 2008.

Microsoft has emphasized that certain systems will not be able to receive SP1 because of drivers that could cause problems but, once updates for the problematic drivers become available, they will be installed automatically by Windows Update. Only then will the user have the option to install SP1, if he or she so chooses.

Initially, SP1 will be available for manual download on Windows Update and the download center in five languages: English, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese. It will take until April for the remaining languages to hit Windows Update; at that point, SP1 will be pushed automatically to PCs. Tech ARP claims that the remaining languages will hit on April 9 while the automatic push will begin on or after April 18. Users who do not want SP1 should disable the automatic installation of updates before this date.
