Sound Problems

Hi Forum,
I am having continual problems with sound coming and going on Real Player. I usually end up uninstalling it and then re-installing it but it is becoming a real nuisance.
I usually download music videos from youTube using DVD Videosoft free Studio and this converts them into Real Player folders. Most of my downloaded material is in this format..practically all my Music Folder. When this programme "freezes" I can no longer access the files.
Can I convert these files out of Real Player into something else that is more reliable. I am not very technical and a simple answer would suffice.
Is this yet another quirk of this wretched Vista OS ? Every time I turn on I encounter some damned application failure or something and I seem to be never out of trouble:mad:. This may finally tip me over the edge into Windows 7.:sa:

Hi,
I am running Vista Home Premium (64bit) on a HP HDX 18 Laptop.
OS is updated to SP2 and all relevant updates.
I download mainly YouTube videos to up to date DVD Video Studio suite.
This is downloaded to up to date Real Player basic player.

This is about all the info I have on the system. However, at the moment and maddeningly, sound has returned to the errant Real Player.
I should add that this is not an overall system sound problem because the Laptop has normal sound and WMPlayer works fine. Puzzling. Any views ?

My problem is no sound when connected to the internet at times. When I boot up sometimes I get the sound chime which lets me know it is working other times nothing and sound on the internet does not work. Amazingly iTunes always works as does windows media player it is just the sound for web pages that does not work at times

Suggestion :

Do away with all the hassles with codes etc. Install VLC media player.
It plays all formats without issues.
VLC download : VLC Media Player | Free Download
