i dont know much about audio/sound cards so please excuse me. my problem is when playing videos on my computer i have my audio crank all the way up and yet have trouble hearing people talk. its very loud on other parts like if shooting, bombs or everything else. its only the speech of the actors i have trouble hearing, i have to adjust volume throughout playing the video, cause somestimes it gets way too loud but then when im trying to listen to the people i have to put volume all the way.

im using vista home premium, microsoft built in audio drivers. im using board audio, i have gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 (rev. 2.0) onboard audio Realtek ALC883 Audio Codec.

it happens on dvd playback or sources from internet.

should i try my audo drivers from gigabyte? i dont mind trying different things.

agian please forgive me i dont know much about audio. and i dont know there terms.

when listeing to music i dont notice a problem, except i do have volume turn high. i have logitch
X-540 5.1 Speaker System, Speakers: 4 satellites, 1 center channel, 1 subwoofer

Hello,

I think I know exactly what the problem is. Basically, what I think is that you are not hearing the normal range sounds (voices etc.) from your middle speaker, but you are hearing your subwoofer playing the deep sounds (bombs etc.) Vista has this trouble from media players and browsers. I think that if you listen carefully, you are hearing soft voices from your side speakers (maybe under the desk), your load subwoofer, but not from your all crucial middle speaker. This would fit with all of your descriptions, and Vista. Listen carefully to each of your speakers, and remember that the side speakers should be quite.

For more information on this problem, and why, see here: No surround sound in Vista? Creative tries a little ALchemy - Crave at CNET UK

THE FIX:

You have to trust me on this, it will fix the problem if I have identified it correctly.

Start Orb > Control Panel > Classic View > Sound > Single Click on Speakers (with a green tick) and click Configure > Select 7.1 (trust me) and click Next > Put a check next to all speakers (even ones you do not use - trust me) and click Next > Put a check next to both (trust me) and click Next > Finish.

Single Click on Speakers again and click on Properties > Enhancements tab > Put a check next to Speaker Fill (crucial - trust me) > OK > OK

Now try your sounds again. If I have pushed too fast, or this has not fixed the problem, come back to me.

Richard

P.S. There is NO need to download ALchemy.

im going to give that a try right now, the subwoofer i have it like on low because since i have to crank the volume to hear, having the subwoofer on normal shakes the whole floor and is scary loud at points.

also my speaker setup is the 2 main speakers left and right. the center piece with is hanging up high on the wall and the subwoofer on the floor.

what you describe sounds like my problem. lol

so i dont have to worry about drivers. ill get back to you, and thanks.
