My sound does not work, but the strange thing is; i know exactly what to do to fix it, the problem is getting there:
1) I pull up the Start menu
2) I select "Run"
3) I type in "services.msc"
4) I press enter
5) I press the "Standard" tab on the bottom of the window
6) I scroll down to "Windows Audio"
7) I double-click "Windows Audio"... properties does not pop up
8) I right-click "Windows Audio" and select Properties... it does not pop up
9) I click the icon at the top of the window that says Properties... it does not pop up
10) Clicking "Start" on the "Windows Audio" and it gives me an error message saying "error 1068"

All other attempts to get the sound working has failed, like checking if my sound card is up to date, going to "Add Hardware", checking the hardware status, etc. etc.
all i need to do is to be able to get the the properties of "Windows Audio" in services. help please!

Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

Error 1068 is actually a problem with a service dependency, rather than the service itself. First, we must find out which of the Audio Service dependencies is causing the problem, what the problem is, and the resolution. Please do not be afraid that we are not actually doing anything with the Audio Service, as this is not actually the root cause of your troubles.

All of the following five services should be Automatic (Started) If any of them are not Automatic, go into the properties box for them, from services.msc, and set them to Automatic. If any of them are not Started, start them. If this starts them all, try the Audio Service again, if one of them fails to start (more likely) then tell me which service has caused the error, and the error given.

Multimedia Class Scheduler
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
DCOM Server Process Launcher
Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
Plug and Play

Please tell me which of these five actually causes another error, the error message or code, or if you need more detailed instructions.

Thanks, and good luck!

Richard
