Ok, I've read a lot about problems that are almost the same as mine, but not quite...

I have, somehow, deleted the only administrator account in vista. Basically because I deleted all the passwords stored, I guess.

I know there is a super-administrator account but I can not access it in any way:
- I've tried restarting normally, chose administrator, put the blan passsword but get a return saying the account has been disabled
- I've tried restarting in safe mode (no administrator login available)
- I've tried the command prompt and net user (error 5)
- I've even tried regedit (not allowed)

The mater is you have to be an administrator to create another administrator account.

The laptop doesn't have any crucial information, so I would gladly format it. Guess what...
1) You need to be an administrator to run vista setup.
2) The computer won't boot from my vista dvd (and it is set up to do so in bios)

I'm absolutely locked up. Help???

Hello Land, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if doing a System Restore from boot (Method Two at link) using a restore point dated before this problem can fix it for you.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Dear Brink,

I forgot to say I tried the system restore also. Once again, you nee to be an administrator to do that...

Dear Garysgold,

The same problem with your solution (can't execute cmd.exe as an administrator)

Thanks for the prompt replies, though.

Hi Land,

What make is your laptop? Most laptops include an image of the OS on a hidden partition that is invoked when a certain key/key combination is pressed when you turn it on (see the laptop manual for details). This image restores the laptop to its original condition.

What you can do is hook up your laptop HDD to a PC and from there on reformat it with a simple right click. Nothing will stop you installing a new OS after that.

Hey Land,
If all else fails and you have to reinstall, most laptops/computers today have an option to select the boot device while the bios screen is being shown. For example on my laptop I press F9 and I can then choose the dvd drive from the menu.
you might have to experiment a bit to find the right key, but this could solve all your problems
I hope this helps

Hey people,

Thank you all for your help!
I used a XP cd with autoboot and then installed Vista over it. Everything's cool now, but I just wonder... what if I had important stuff there?

Anyway... all good.
