Slow Windows Mail....

Hello,

I have three computers running off a one year old Router.

Comp 1 runs Windows XP while comps 2 and 3 run Vista

Comp 1 has Outlook Express and has no problems with e-mail sending or receiving

Comp 2 has Windows Mail and again has no problems with sending or receiving e-mails.

Comp 3 has Windows Mail and can send e-mails quickly with no problems, but it takes forever to pull e-mails from my ISP.

Download speeds are good at 18 MBPS and upload speeds are around 2 MBPS, ping times are in the lower 40s - these numbers are similar on all computers.

I have tried these recommended actions on computer 3 with no success.....

The only low hanging fruit that grabs my attention is the different Vista OS being run in comps 2 & 3

Comp 2 has never downloaded a service pak the best I can tell while comp 3 has Service pak 2 installed. I gather this by clicking on the properties box on My Computer which gives me the operating system among other things.

Any ideas why comp 3 would take forever to receive "normal" e-mails ?? (Even when there are no e-mails to pull off the server)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

PS....One thing I have noticed on comp 3 is if I send a "test" e-mail it sends it immediately and apparently at the same time looks for new e-mails on the server very quickly. It will say "no new messages" within a second or two of sending the test e-mail. But if you immediately follow that up by clicking on send/receive it takes forever to tell you there are no new messages.

Welcome to the Forum

I have found this answer from the MS forum. I think that it is both logcial and correct. You have mentioned that the only variable is the different OS, this answer takes that fact into acccount. Good luck.

Yeah, I checked that over pretty thoroughly previously. My router has the latest firmware. There's not many contacts but I did organize them into three folders. The "complete address" box had no effect, but that's not surprising because there never is a problem with sending only receiving. I did the calendar thing, I tried the registry fix that's pointed out in the link I provided. I don't have Spysweeper, just using Kaspersky and lowered its sensitivity thinking that might be an issue, Windows Firewall is off, Defender is on but messing with the settings had no affect.....

Not really sure where it specifically talks about a non updated version of Vista compared to one with Service Pak 2 (which is the one giving me all the problems)

I appreciate your input, I'll keep looking....

It is bad news because many have the problem and no remedy has been disclosed, to date.
