Slow System

Hi, I have Vista 32 bit,intel core2 duo t7250 processor,3gb ram,nvidia 8600m dell xps 1530 laptop. My friend also has ame lappy. His system works perfectly fine, but my system is too slow.There is lag in simple operations also like there in a lag of 1-3 seconds in opening folders,it always takes to load/show all data in the folders.
This problem is still persists even after i have disabled all unneccesary stuffs.

Please suggest a solution

Thanks Shawn,
Disabling thumbnail helped a little,but not seeing pictures in thumbnail is a turn off.
Any way this helps in opening folders.
I also get time lag problem while playing any audio/video file.Now here, lag some times exceeds 5 sec.
Can you help me on this.

I did everything as per the tutorial, but no success.i use media player classic and winamp for listening & watching movies.

System works perfectly fine when i play games like crysis,fifa 09,left 4 dead etc and my windows experience index base score is 4.8, basically idont see any performance issue except
When i play video/audio file
opening and scrolling through a folder which has more data

Mmmmmm. I use both those players as well and suffer no lag. You could try uninstalling them and then reinstalling them as they might be bloated with plugins, skins etc that are causing them to run slow.

I use THIS for viewing videos, it contains windows media player classic and is very fast.

If your folder contains hundreds of files then its maybe going to open slower, try grouping them into subfolders like Comedy, horror etc.

containg more files should not be an issue coz my friend also has same configuration and his lappy works perfectly fine, but i'll try n see.

start/all programs/acessories/run type msconfig and hit return

disable everything you dont need in your startup folder (use the net to find out whats wat if your not sure)

pound to a penny you have so many background processes running your pc is bogged down

hold down ctrl and alt and hit delete once then click start task manager the look under the processes tab , let us know how many running processes you have (bottom left "processes"
