So i have comcast, long story short i should be downloading at 108 MBPS, but because of my Wireless card (netgear w1113 i think) Which still should be giving me 54 MBPS, So why when i download using Firefox or Utorrent, i am only getting 300 KBPS?

Hi and welcome to vista forums

the 108mb and 54mb are the maxumum speeds you wifi can transfer data. If you were to have 2 computers and want to transfer from one to the other you would get near that speed.

Your ISP (comcast) regulates how fast you can upload and download. You can ask them what you are supposed to have, but 300K isn't bad. Just remember thats 300 K per second.

I guess its not, but when i am downloading multiple files at several Gigs each, it is kind of annoying. And i download anywhere between 1.8 MBPS to like 20 KBPS... Why is there such a big gap. And why is it that my brother was able to download something that was like 2.8 gigs in like 30 minutes, when i have had to wait over 2 hours?

DL speed varies with the number of ppl on the same 'wire' at the time. you will find when there is a big sports game on and everyone is watching tv that your downloads will go up. usually overnight is also a good time. 2.8 gigs in 30 mins is fast. I suspect it wasn't dl'ed at the same time on the same wire as your 2 hours, was it?

you can check you dl speed at any time by going to speedtest.net. You have to know what you are supposed to get and for that ask comcast

Well. Apparently, i am supposed to be getting like 4MBPS, according to SPeedtest. And one thing I checked was in in Taskmanager it said that i was utilizing like 1% of my network. How can i use more to get a better speed ><

And when i Downloaded it, it was just my Brother on MSN/firefox on his browser and when HE downloaded the file it was the same on my PC.

You are approaching this in the wrong way. First find out what you are supposed to be getting from your ISP.
then you can tell using speedtest what you are getting. You are getting at the time of the speed test 4Mb. that is good.

Your task manager is saying 1% of YOUR total (your total for wifi is 108mb) one percent of 108 is 1.8 mb.

That is all correct. I have 1000Mb wired connection but my ISP only lets me download at 6Mb, so my taskmanger will say 0.6%, but im still getting 6 mMb down.

I think the thing that has you hung up is the fact that its taking a long time to download Really Big files.

Hope this helps

Ken

Comcast's maximum downloading speed is up to 50 Mbps in extreme and uploading speed is 10Mbps max.

I had this same problem a while ago; you might want to try syncing you router with your Comcast modem by:

1. Unplugging the router power cable.

2. Using a pen or nail to hit the reset button on the Comcast modem (located next to the ethernet port)

3. When all lights are solid on the modem, re-inserting the power cable into the router.

Lol, last time i tried to reset the router we had to do some weird thing with a Flash Drive to get all the computers to recognize the router again, and it took like 4 hours ><

lol, Well I had the same kinda problem you described and the Comcast guys came over and should me that, and it worked. Just a suggestion though.

Did it make your connection better the last time you did it?
