Sims 2 compatability problem

hi, i got a brand new sony vaio laptop for my birthday just before christmas. and i installed all my sims games on it, expansions packs and everything. when all were installed i brought my sims 2 folder from my previous computer to this, including my custom content downloads. i was happy finally getting to play my game. so i started it up. and when i went into my first house, i finished putting furniture in its place. and when i went to play my sims kept resetting all by themselves. they couldbe standing facing the camera and then in a blink of an eye they'd be facing the house. so i realised it was a conflicting hack so i turned off the game and narrowed the hack to one folder and then down to 2 rows of 4 files each. so when i got to two files i put them into my downloads file on thier own. i restarted the game but it wouldnt go past the sims 2 launcher. my boyfriend is a computer technician, a very good one. and he couldnt figure out what happened. i tried a a small amount of downloads and it didnt work. at least a month went by and he tried switching the compatability to windows 95 and it worked. i started the game but there was no custom content objects at all. none of my downloaded houses or sims or hair furniture. since then we have tried everything to get it to work. then one day he did a complete system restore and and it worked on the windows xp compatability for about 3 games then it stopped, and would only work on windows 95 compat. if anyone knows how to get my downloads to work with a system compatability of 95 that would be great. or if there is a way of getting compatablitly xp working without the reinstall. my other option is if i get it working to not turn off my laptop. i would like a permanant solution. any help is greatly welcome. thanks
