Sidebar.exe file is missing

My sidebar disappeared after I turned on my computer. I thought all I had to do was turn the sidebar on but when I tried to do so, I received an error that sidebar.exe is missing. How can I get this file back? This seemed to happen after I uninstalled Norton anti-virus. It took me hours to uninstall Norton and install avg instead. I'd rather not do a system restore as I finally have my computer working fine (except for sidebar). Any help would be appreciated. Is there a file I can download?

Problem solved. My sidebar is back! I used sfc /scannow to fix the problem and it corrected some errors that it found.

I saw that post you referenced earlier when I did a search but didn't think the solution could be that simple. Usually when I have computer problems it takes hours of trial and error to get anything to work.

My computer is brand new (less than a day old) and I found it hard to believe I could have problems with Vista so soon.
