Shrink Hard Drive Problem

Hi, I have a problem about the shrink tool in windows vista. I take up about 40 gigabytes of hard drive space on my hard drive and when i use the shrink tool to shrink my volume to dual bot with windows 7, it says that i can only shrink 27 megabytes. Also can someone teach me how to dual boot windows 7 and vista? Also if i shrink a hard drive will the hard drive be wiped clean?

Hi,

If you shrink free space - it means just that, Vista Disk Management will only shrink till it meets a file on the HD.

It will not wipe the non shrunk space.

If you have plenty of space , you need to use a 3rd party partition manager to move those files non - destructively and and shrink the partition.

thanks! but do you know any other partition software other than g parted, because the tutorial says that you get an error and need the installlation cd and i have an hp so it didnt come with one. =(
