Setting up Windows Mail

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition X64 bit OS. How can I set up my Windows Mail to automatically receive incoming messages? At present I have to manually select SEND/RECIEVE to be able to load any incoming messages. My system used to work automatically, but I had to take my PC top the shop for repairs, and when I got it back the automatic feature was no longer there. Thanks for your help. :D

TY for the rep Alvin.

Did my suggestion work?

If it did post and you will be helping others.

If it did not, post, and then I and the other Memebers can continue to try and find a solution.

OK, tell me if this idea works for you. Back up all your mail. Go to control panel, uninstall windows essentials (mail application) or windows live (dependng upon which shows). Then download a new application.

If you agree. Make a system restore point first, in case of problems.

Hi, I don't have Windows Essentials anymore, as I found it conflicted with my virus protection program & I un-installed it. There must be a button somewhere in the Windows Mail realm that is unchecked so that it will not automatically deliver new mail? I don't know just speculating. All I know is that is used to work. Thanks again for your interest in my problem. :)

The first thing that I thought of was looking for a box (like you mention) and could not find one. I have Windows Live Mail (part of windows essentials). Howver, I think that the problem or resolution will be the same for WLM and WM. I will keep looking.

Try this

Tools>options>Check for new messages every 5 minutes>if computer is not connected do not connect.

That is how mine is set up. Lets see if that helps.

Hi Richard,

Sorry your suggestion did not work. I guess if I can figure out how to uniunstall Windows Mail and re-install it it might work as it once did. Thanks for your efforts.

Hi Alvin,

If you want to uninstall and then reinstall it is easy.

Go to control panel,>programs & Features>windows mail (or some variation)*, then uninstall. To reinstall go to windows live essentials
*windows essentials

Essentials - Windows Live

Then choose the programs that you want. The new version of Windows Mail, is Windows Live Mail

How to uninstall a program in Windows Vista

Start with a system restore point
