set up a proxy..?

Hey guys!

So, at my school we run off of proxy servers.
I have been given the port, I just can't work out how to set it up.

For windows i was told to do command prompt and ipconfig /all and take the DHCP, but i'm confused lol.
This is for my laptop, so Windows or Linux, btw.

Any help would be great!

Proxy is set in individual programs, rather than computer wide. In particular, you will want to change the IE proxy (as some Windows things base on this) and whatever browser you normally use. I will instruct for Firefox, as Firefox is very difficult to find! If you want help with other browsers, just ask!

IE: Open IE > Press Alt Key > Tools > Internet Options> Connections Tab > LAN Settings

Firefox: Open Firefox > Tools > Advanced Tab > Network Sub-Tab > Settings

You will want to try auto-detect, to see if it works. If not, manually set the proxies. My only worry is that your home network will not use/not the same proxy, and so this may become a bit of a pain. See how auto-detect goes.

So i tried the auto detect and not alot happened.
I'll try it manually today and post back how it goes.
