Running out of memory when minimized?

Lately I have been playing Sims 3 and when I minimize it to check my AIM or email and such it says that I am running low on memory and that I should close the program. I just hit cancel ignoring it. I have 4GB of RAM and use 3D CAD and have never had that happen...even playing BattleField 2142 on the max settings. Is this just because I minimized the game and it has to store my session in memory and with some much going on at the same time pushes the memory to the max? If I check it in the task manager it runs at almost 1GB of memory whe minimized. The game is rated for 2 GB of RAM recommended...is something else causing this? I also do not use a paging file(reduces hard drive thrashing)...can this be the culprit? The notebook never slows down either so it definitely has me confused.

Check my system specs for more info.

Thanks in advance.

yes absolutely its your pagefile , or lack of it , the game is requesting pagefile space , windows cant give it any , set it to system managed and leave it be .

why do you think it increases "hard drive thrashing"?? it doesnt

all programs ask for an ammount of pagefile to be allocated whether its needed or not , if windows cant give it any it'll either complain or give it a huge chunk of physical ram , both causing issues
