Alright, so at our place we use Comcast Internet, and we have a Belkin router and i have no idea what kind of modem box. But periodically the Modem icon blinks red on our Belkin router. We aren't sure if this is a problem with the Router or the Modem box itself. Any idea's?

Is your internet still working?

A red light isn't always a bad thing in terms of router lights.

Is your router setup correctly to receive your modem's signal?

Have you tried restarting the modem and router?

Post back with any results or any questions you may have.

when the router light blinks Orange, we lose the net and the ability to talk to the other computers. Everything is set up properly as far as i know, i wasn't the one who did it, i just came in on it.

We have done EVERYTHING we can think of with the modem. Unplugging it and plugging it back in after ten seconds seems to work for a bit, but i want to get rid of this choppyness for GOOD.

But i wanted to know, if i switch the Belkin router for a D-Link router would i have to set everything up again? and if so how? (The D-Link is a DI-514)

I'm no expert on modem problems (mainly because here in the UK they're built into the routers now which makes life very straight forward) but I would imagine this problem is to do with your router's settings for talking to the modem. Ask your ISP for the correct settings and see if they are the same as the ones entered into your modem/router.

Something you could try is resetting both to factory defaults.

Don't take my word as gospel on this, it may be worth a second or third opinion on the problem.

My biggest fear with that is that we don't have manuals for either of them. And if we reset them both to factory settings i don't know if there are going to be passwords that we need or **** like that

I personally don't know what to do from now especially because of the lack of specifics such as router and modem models.

I would imagine asking the person who set it up for you would be your best bet at the moment, but I think this might just be one of those problems that goes away after a period.

If you find out your modem model there is a very small chance I might be able to help.

I'm sorry I can't help more.

There should be a little reset button next to the power input on your modem.

Usually you would be able to just press this without messing u any settings... it just reset the modem's connection to the server.

I think that resetting the modem and router is still the best option.

Resetting the modem should not be a problem because there is no password needed to access it.

There is a guide on how to reset a Belkin router to factory settings at Restoring a Belkin router to the factory default state. Belkin Equipment Forum FAQ - dslreports.com.

Once you've reset the router you will probably need to add a password to the WiFi network (I think, I'm not a great user of Belkin products).

To do this you have to go to the default router IP at 192.168.2.1 and the default username and password will be -nothing- and -nothing- or admin and admin (to the best of my knowledge).

If you need any further help after resetting your router and modem, I'll be more than happy to help.

Hello and being some one who just finish researching and fixing a Belkin router ( warless) problem my self I can help you out.(PLEASE LEAVE me a thanks) so I can accumulate points)).
Type in with out or if not successfully plug in the hard wire to the router www.192.168.2.1 . That will take you to the Belkin web page. If you haven't set your sign on name or password just type in nothing at all. Just click enter. If that dint work place "ADMIN" as the user and nothing as a password, If not that type the word "PASSWORD" in the PASSWORD SPOT. From there click on "Change back to default settings". If you still have problems call Comcast at 1-800-comcast.
Haver you going in no time. PS have your comcast bill in hand as they will want your account number or maybe just your phone number connected to the account.
Mike :D
