router not showing

how do i get my router showing in my network folder ive turned network discovery

on , but still no joy ..........


help much appreciated........:huh:

If by "network folder" you mean the folder you get to by Start > Network, or by the "Network" icon on your desktop...

That folder, for the most part, only shows Windows systems and the files/printers being shared by them. (It will also show *nix systems with Samba shares, and some types of media shares - such as Windows Media Player.)

That folder is not there for any form of access to your router.

To access your router you need to use a web browser and type in its IP address. Typically this is your computer's gateway.

To determine your gateway address: Control Panel > Network & Sharing Center > View Status on your Local Area Connection or Wireless Connection > Details

Then type in http:\\gateway_address into your web browser, replacing "gateway_address" with the gateway you just retrieved.

My home Vista machine shows similar to this (which is correct):

If you click on the "View full map" link/text, you should see something like this (which is also correct):

If what you are seeing looks similar, then you're "ok". Even if you're not seeing those icons, as long as you have internet access, you're still "ok".

cheers .. that works , its just because i want to keep an eye on how much ive downloaded
