Everybody complains about the weather but nobody does anything about it. Well, I'm certainly "nobody". I want to do something about it.
Running Vista Ultimate (32 bit, sorry) on a Toshiba Satellite, Centrino Dual, 2 GB ram. While executing an admittedly LARGE "move" from a networked drive I encountered an "out of memory" issue. ("Pulling" data across a network has always seemed to work better that "pushing" the data so I initiated the I/O from the Vista system from the XP Pro Desktop system. Part of the reason for the transfer was to watch network performance but that DISMAL performance will need to wait for another post.) The move: 6.67 GB, 395098 files, 836 folders of astronomical images. After transferring 1.94 GB, 16,345 files, and 31 folders, Vista choked with an "out of memory" message. (Reminiscent of a "stack" memory issue in earlier versions of Windows?) "Retry" was unsuccessful, "Skip" was not appropriate, "Cancel" was the only reasonable option; I cancelled. After cancelling, the "General" tab of the Folder Properties was unavailable in that session of Windows Explorer. I exited and restarted Windows Explorer and the General tab was back.
I do not NEED to move this data across the network as I already have the data on a USB backup drive but the issue here is reporting a Vista issue to M$;
1. How do I collect the necessary data (a forced memory dump or such)
2. Exactly WHERE do I make the report?
Phillip
