Solved repair install question

Hello all, I am having a problem with the install of sp2 on my girlfriends laptop error code (0x80070490). The only fix if have found is to do a repair installation. This laptop was shipped with the os installed. I have a reinstallation dvd. My question is will this dvd give the option for repair install? I know it is a stupid question but i do not want to screw up her laptop. Thanks for any advice.

it should offer a simple repair option mate , just boot from it and have a look , you wont do any harm , just go throguh the process and see what happens , you cant "accidently" reformat.

archie123, It was a nogo.I booted from the drive and i would spin up but nothing happened. I ended up doing a factory image.What a pain getting all the bloatware off,updates etc. All is good now!

bloatware! god i know what you mean , ive built my own pc's for years so ive forgotten what shop bought ones are like , we got a new pc at work from PC world , 18 startup items that didnt need to be there! and about 10 trialware programs all starting with windows , what a nightmare

After id finished Vista booted in half the time and was alot more responsive , you shouldnt have to do all that with a new pc , people with a little less knowlage end up with a brand new pc thats so bogged down it can hardly cope , all that rubbish should come on a seperate disk , i realise its there as the revenue helps keep the cost of the PC down , but i doubt the retailers are passing that saving on
