Solved Remove program features from start up?

I'm a novice so bear with me. Though I want some programs on my computer, I don't want them to automatically start up and slow down the boot up process. In the bottom right corner, I always have Adobe Downloader, Skype, Kodak Printer Status, Web Cam, etc. that I don't want to start up but want available on my desktop if I ever need them. If I go to Add/Delete programs, that will get rid of the program entirely. I just want to get rid of the automatic start up feature of the program. How can I do this????

Hello Bifcatadvocat, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Some programs will have an option in their settings to have them run at startup or not.

If not, then this tutorial will show you how to disable or remove a program from the startup programs list. Method One (in Option Two) would be the easiest way with Windows Defender.

You can then just create shortcuts for these program to your desktop, or wherever (ex: Quick Launch), to make it easier to run them when you like.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

the way i would do it. dunno if this is in the tutrial link. probably is. go to the search bar and type msconfig. this will bring up a small window. then go to services and select the box that hides all microsoft programmes. they should be showing there and you can untick them. do be careful what you untick though it can make things more annoying rather than better.

hope this helps and correct me if im wrong anyone.

START > RUN > type "msconfig" (without quotation mark) > OK > Startup > here you review all listed programs, uncheck the ones you do not want to start on start up (you can disable all and then go reverse...i.e, add the ones you want) > Apply > OK > (Caution!!!!...read down before restarting) Restart

Remember this step-by-step PC basics for future and repeated accesses. Now and then you must do this to remove program/s that sometimes get snuck on without your permission. (You might want to write this down before you restart the first time)

If after clicking START you do not see Run..., type "run" (without quotation mark) on the search box (bottom of start menu right under All programs), then proceed as per above instructions.
