Hi Panais

I agree with Rozsomak regarding CleanMyPC Software's Registry Cleaner which I've been using for about six months now with absoltely no issues, however, I do not like and would not recommend RegCure.
CleanMyPC Registry Cleaner - Official Site of CleanMyPC Registry Cleaner

You might also like to consider WiseCleaner's Registry Cleaner 3 Free which was brought to my attention recently by the Administrator of this site, 'Brink' (Shawn).

Which is the best registry repair/cleaner/ tool for vista?

CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) has a good rep.

Just a word of caution though, about so-called "Registry Cleaners". There is nothing they can do that you cannot to yourself. And a vast majority of them end up creating more problems than they supposedly solve.

My advice to you would be to not use "Registry Cleaners" at all.

Just as with earlier versions of Windows using registry cleaners to delete registry files can cause damage to your entire system if you are not one hundred percent sure about what you or the program is deleting.

Make certain you have identified the error and the correct fix before proceeding.

Remember to back up your system before making any changes to the registry.

The average user also doesn't know what programs are what since a lot of them seem misleading. I don't see why you guys are down on them...I think it's better to use one than to allow your registry to get so full of crap that your computer takes ages to load anything because it has to sift through the garbage.

KingOfChaos registry cleaners are misleading and should not be used IMHO

They detect inconsistencies based on perception not operation, they pickup keys and values used by programs but consider them useless and mark them for deletion...

Why is this bad? Well there are lots of keys and values used by Vista`s registry for components and services within the operating system for itself and other programs, If I uninstalled TabletPC components then ran some registry cleaner it would perceive these keys as empty and delete them without realizing I would need these same keys to re-install that service or component at a later time, I have seen many times how one issue can quickly become a dogs breakfast trying to solve after a registry cleaner has removed a critical piece of the registry or support program because the way it perceives it as invalid.

Its better to find the cause of the specific issue and fix it instead of using a chainsaw to mow the lawn.

If someone wanted to try cleaning out some of the garbage in the registry w/o using a program, where would one find the info to do it properly. If I delete a file is there also a key that needs deleting? How would I find it? I know when I uninstall a program there are remenants. Which ones can be deleted and which ones not? The registry makes me nervous. I have done some of the changes in the tutorials, but don't know much more than that.

My System Restore capability has gone recently - probably due to some registry - cleaning, despite having used one of the most sophisticated one, WinASO. Had to backup from a Norton Ghost Image.
That was a tough bastard, I still don't know the appropriate fix.

Anyway, let me ask You my more experienced fellows, is there any alternative to CleanMyPC Registry cleaner x64? I run a Vista Ultimate x64.
