"Registry access denied" error

I'm getting an error message every time I right-click on my own files that says "Registry access denied". Any idea how to get rid of it?

Not sure what I installed that started causing this, and unfortunately I don't have a system restore point that predates it.

Googling this has gotten me nowhere, other than a suggestion to change the owner of all files on my C: drive to myself (note I tried my non-administrator account), which failed.

Actually, I did manage to change ownership of my files, but the problem persists. What else can I try?
