Hi,

I have installed vista home premium on my HTPC, and i need the caps lock to be on at startup.

In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators
i have set the value to 3 for the caps and numlock to come on at startup, but they dont. if i reboot the change is undone and the value is set to 2 again.

I have searched but cannot find what i am doing wrong, or if i have overlooked anything.

Any tips wil be greatly appreciated!!

Thx,

KF

Hi kiteforce,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

I noticed that the BIOS settings for the toggle keys will override this on some computers. You should check to see what the BIOS is set to have start up. Usually you will only have an option for the Num Lock key, but some BIOS settings will include the others.

Hope this helps,

Hi, thx for your reply.

However it wasnt usefull. I have checked the bios and there is only a numlock setting, not cap lock.

I have also tested to make sure the bios isnt interfering with this problem by doing a logoff/logon, and the problem also occured here.

So when i log off, the keyboard caps indicator goes out before i get the loginscreen again. When checking the initialkeyboardindicators value after logoff/logon i find it reset to 2 (both after trying values 1 and 3, it always comes back to 2)

I have just tried another approach:
Made a capslock.vbs and put it in the startup folder
using this code:

set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.SendKeys "{CAPSLOCK}"

works like a treat :p

Greetz,

KF
