I am wondering if i decide to reformat windows, and I have windows and apps on my C drive, but all my storage on D, when I go to delete partition C to make a new one for windows new, What will become of my D drive? Will i have to delete my D drive partition as well before i can install windows on my C? Or for my new windows to recognise D?

c:\ 300gig (2x160gig raided) Sata2
d:\ 80gig Sata2
e:\ 500gig *coming soon* Sata2 (300mb/s)

Hi Bloodshot,

I would not delete the C: partition to be safe. Instead I would just format it. This way you can install on the C: drive afterwards without affecting the D: drive at all.

But when i start the installation... wont it ask me to delete the partition before i can install windows on it? cuz when im at that partition screen, it will show 2 partitions, i cant create new on eighther, only delete, or can I still format that drive with the same partitions in the end?

if you're installing vista then there should be a screen where you can select which partition you would want to install the OS on.

if you delete the C partition then you would not be able to install it on there unless you create another partition with a partition manager application.

so go with what Brink said and just format the C partition so the installation will just copy the files onto the C drive and won't touch you D partition at all.

btw when you start the installation it won't ask you to delete the whole partition it will just say it will delete the files on that partition.

hopefully that helps.

Hello,

It will not cause an issue as you would only be telling it to delete the C partition.

Furthermore if they are on different drives it definitely will not be a problem.

If you want, unplug your 80GB Sata drive before you install.

alright thanks everyone. :) say if my reason were to reformat because i was infected with a virus, since windows is on C, will i only need to format that drive to completely get rid of the virus?

My Computer

Bloodshot,

Formating the drive will wipe out the virus for that drive, but a virus can infect anything connected to your computer. I would run a very thorough antivirus scan on all of your drives to be safe.
