Recycle Bin question

I just noticed: I drag a file into Recycle Bin...it doesn't show it's in there.
Yet when I right click on the recycle bin icon to delete, it says the usual 'do you want to delete this,' and I say yes, and it's gone.

Why can't I see there's trash IN the recycle bin? I know I musta clicked something.

Hi Eknirb,

This is just a refreshing issue with the Recycle Bin icon. It usually happens when the Recycle Bin gets deleted by mistake and restored using the Restore Default button in the Desktop Icon Settings window. This will show you how to fix this problem so it will act normally again.

Not sure on this. I drag a file into the trash...I don't see it in there. I hit F5 to refresh, and there's the file. So the prob is I dont see it when intially dragging it in there. Is it corrputed? What's the best fix?

I tried the download method...no luck.

Does this happen only for the Recycle Bin? If you were to drag a new folder into a Windows Explorer window, does it show up or do you have to press F5 to see it to.

If it is only the Recyle Bin, then this will show you how to reset it.

If it is like this for everywhere, then it is not a issue with the Recycle Bin. See if a restart or running a sfc /scannow command will fix this problem then.

i just now dragged something into recycle and tried to empty..and it wouldnt empty. then i hit F5 and it went away. let me reboot.

same. i drag it in there. Can't see it. Hit F5, I can see it. Empty the recycle bin..it's still there. Hit F5, it's then gone.

Windows Explorer is what is used when you are navigating the files and folders in your computer. Whenever you have a folder open, you are seeing it in a Windows Explorer window.

For the test:
1. Right click on a empty area of your desktop and click New, then Folder.
2. Open the Start menu and click on All Programs, Accessories, and Windows Explorer.
3. Drag and drop the New Folder into the Windows Explorer window.

Notice if the New Folder automatically shows up in the Windows Explorer window, or do you first need to press F5 to refresh the Windows Explorer window to see it.

Ok, that is good. You may only have a corrupted Recycle Bin then. This will show you how to reset it.

problem fixed- just changed the full icon to empty, then empty to full, then redid it.

Hi, Eknirb. I had the same problem. Strangely I got the solution from one of the tutorials in this forum. Anyway, here is how : -
1. delete the bin you now have
2. right click on the desktop > click Personalize
3.click Change desktop icons
4. check the box next to Recycle Bin
5. in the middle frame click Recycle Bin (full) > click Change Icon
6. click Recyle Bin (full) > click OK
7. repeat step 5 & 6 , except this time click the recycle bin(empty)
8. click Apply > click OK
Now you have your old reliable bin back.
