REALTEK 8187 - soft AP security settings

Hello,

I just reloaded my PC with win7 x64. After hunting about i installed the new win7 realtek drivers and Wireless LAN Utility. I was able get the soft AP up and running. I have to wireless laptops (one XP and one Win7). The Win7 laptop can connect to the soft AP (usually). However, the laptop running win XP can not. After some researching, i came to the conclusion that the laptop wireless atheros card can not use WPA2 security authentication.

The Soft AP Wireless Utility will not let me change the Network Authentication - it is grayed out and set to only use WPA2 ???

Does anyone know how i can get the security setting to let me change it to other settings like WPA or Open???

Any help will be appreciated. Otherwise guess i be buying a new stand alone router.

I spent 2 hours looking, and found nothing useful. I suggest you contact Realtek (unfortunately tech support is only by e-mail) and give a detailed explanation with a full identification of your product (including the serial number if there is one) and whatever software and drivers (exact and complete version numbers) you are using and info on the computer as well as well as the specs on the card and the computer that seems to need a different setting (and anything else you think might help as email is a slow way to communicate and the more you provide, the less they'll come back with questions instead of answers) and see what they have to say: Realtek.

You may also want to try Asus Technical Support if the device came with the computer to see if they can help: http://support.asus.com/contact/contact.aspx?SLanguage=en-us. Or maybe try the other computer card and/or computer manufacturer's techical support departments to see if there's a way around the security limitation.

I did email Realtek...so hopefully they can come up with a solution, but i wont hold my breath.

I figure i will be buying a new stand alone wireless router. :confused:
