Question about RAM

I've got another question. I would like to upgrade my RAM because I've only got 1GB. If I do that, I have to check whether the RAM is compatible with my motherboard right. But where do I find which ones are compatible with it? (WinFast 6100K8MA RSH socket 939)? Please help!

Thanks in advance!!:d

Well...the one that already in there is compatible.

So you can have a look at it by opening the case, Writing down the information and going to the computer shop and asking for another one "just like this one".

:)

alternatively, you google your MB make and model go to the manufacturers website and find out for yourself what alternative RAM you could use.

You might need a BIOS update as well.

Yeah that's logical, should've thought of that myself:sarc::p thanks Clevo!!

No worries... I had to jump in there before someone suggests re-installing Vista as a solution. :)

If you feel confident enough.

You can pull out the stick of RAM and take it to the shop with you.

You'll need to de-static electricity yourself and not touch the RAM too much.

Sorry for the many questions, but I really want to learn all this stuff, I love it:p How do I de-static electricity myself?:p

Clevo what's the difference between RAM and DDR??
And what do you mean by not to touch the RAM too much? With my fingers or on certain places or..?

Tnx

Since you are going to buy RAM anyway you can go to your computer repair/parts store and also buy an anti-static wristband, while your PC is plugged in but turned off you can connect wristband to metal part of your PC case to "earth" yourself.

You can then handle RAM.

Put it in a special anti-static bag you can also buy cheaply from computer store.

Put RAM modual in special bag.

DDR are is RAM.

it's just a type of ram.
there is DDR, DDR2 and DDR3

DDR memory tends to be only compatible with older motherboards because they are usually 180 pin and only plug in to 180 pin DIMM slots.

DDR2 memory is nowadays the most common type of RAM and plug into 240 pin DIMM slots.

DDR3 is the newest type of ram but it's just like 64bit operating systems it is only compatible with a handful of motherboards

hopefully this is correct because i just type all this off the type of my head.
