Question about IE7

This article says IE7 is "entirely separate" from the OS and can be uninstalled: Has Internet Explorer ever been safe? | iGeneration | ZDNet.com. Is this true? If so, I'd like to uninstall IE7 because I mostly use Opera. Any advice?

I don't know about that but you need IE if you want to install Windows Updates so why take it out, just have the one you use set as default and keep IE in the background for when you need it.

Thank you, Joan. I was not aware that you need IE to use Windows Update.

You're welcome, I don't know if anything has changed but you've always had to use IE for any of Microsoft's monthly updates and downloads, although I do know that the Maxthon browser will get them as that is a shell that has a lot of the features Firefox has but it runs on the IE engine
