Problems With Recycle Bin

Any help would be appreciated,

Their is a folder in my recycling bin that will not delete. Here is every thing about the folder.

- When I try to delete it is doesn't display an error message, it just doesn't delete.

- The file is from AIM and is labeled "Storage" (I have since uninstalled AIM)

- I can not restore it or use restore all or delete all.

- The file prevents me from emptying my recycle bin. I have to manually click and delete everything.

Its becoming bothersome because I can't use empty my recycle bin all at once. I've tried deleting it in safe mode and using disk cleanup but it just wont go away. Again any suggestions will be appreciated.

First, welcome to the forum.

Now your problem. I've never heard of that happening before so this is a shot in the dark. Right click on a clear place on your desktop and select 'Personalize' at the bottom. Now on the left hand side under 'Tasks' click on 'Change desktop icons'. In the top 'Desktop icons' section uncheck 'Recycle Bin' and hit 'Apply' in the bottom right hand corner. Now put a check mark in 'Recycle Bin' box and click on 'Apply'. Hopefully the file is gone or you can delete now.

Try d/ling' CCleaner and see if that can get rid of it.

can u plz give us an image of what's going on using the snipping tool in vista

if the process is running in explorer

1. open a DOS prompt (Start->Run, cmd.exe), change directories to where the file is (do this first!)
2. then use the Task Manager to kill the Explorer process (yes, you can do this - desktop will temporarily disappear).
3. in DOS prompt, delete the file
4. back in Task Manager, choose File->New Task, type "explorer.exe", hit okay. Desktop will reappear.

Hi TreesAreFood,

See if this will fix your corrupted Recycle Bin problem for you.

1. Restart the computer and boot into the Advanced Boot Options screen.
NOTE: For how, see: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88009-advanced-boot-options.html

2. Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt and press Enter.

3. When you boot into the command prompt, type deltree /y c:\recycled and press Enter.
NOTE: In some cases you will need to type deltree /y recycled instead. These will both delete the Recycle Bin.

4. Type exit and press Enter.

5. When you boot back to Vista, the Recyle Bin will be rebuilt automatically.

And Brink, when tried that it said "deltree" isn't a recognized command. I'll try again to see if I messed up.

I tried to delete it though safe mode and with command prompt agian. This time using "del tree" it said invalid y switch for both commands.

Here's another method for how to do it:
How to Fix a Corrupted Recycle Bin in Vista

1. Open Folder Options
NOTE: See OPTION TWO here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/86163-hidden-files-folders.html

A) Dot Show hidden files and folders
B) Check Hide protected operating system files

2. Open the Start Menu
A) Click on Computer
B) Click on the C:\ drive, or the one with Vista.

3. Right click on $RECYCLE.BIN folder and click Delete.

4. Answer Yes, OK, Continue to the million confirmation prompts.

5. It will then automatically create a new one for you afterwards. You may need to press F5 to refresh the window to see the new one.

6. If it does not , then restart the computer to have it create a new one for you.

Try navigating to the location that the folder was deleted from (bottom of screen shot) and try taking ownership of the folder that contained the one that you deleted.
