Problems creating partition (x64)

I have tried several times to create a new partition using Acronis Disk Director, and it fails with an error code I can't find any reference to.

So then I tried using the built-in tool in Vista to "shrink" my current partition, to allow me to create another. But the max available "shrink space" was something ridiculous, less than 1GB (and the drive has 75GB free).

Any ideas?

Here is an image of the logscreen.

I don't actually ever see any errors, but nonetheless my operations don't complete. I usually tell it to "split" the primary partition and then resize them both to my needs, then I "commit" changes which forces a reboot and after all that the new partition is not there. So I check the log, and the above is what I see.

Hi The111,

If you post a screenshot , please do it as follows - so we can all see it easily.

I would think a single click qualifies as "easily enough." I'm using my own bandwidth to host the image. It's full size and perfectly legible. And I'm well aware how to use image editing software, do not need the snipping tool, and am not on a Vista machine right now, but thanks for the suggestion. :D

That may well be the case, but if you want people to help you also have to help them. By actually including the image in the post as requested by SIW2, you make it easier for them to help you as they can see the image at the same time as the post. Incidentally, I had a look at the image and couldn't see anything untoward. Did you follow the links in my previous post?

I'm not trying to be difficult but even though I'm not a regular here, I am on many other forum communities and preference varies widely even within one community. Some people don't like large inline images, or inline images at all. And I maintain that one click is a simple clean alternative to an inline image, regardless, here is a cropped version inline for those that can't be bothered to click.

Regarding the image, there appear to be error codes present, but they do not yield any search results on the web.

I've seen the links you posted and they look like they may be helpful, but I won't be able to verify that until I get back on my other PC tonight.

And here is some sweet, sweet irony. My in-line image is of course illegible after being auto-scaled by the forum (one reason I dislike using inline images). And wait, there's a button which says "view in full scale"... but when you click on it nothing ever happens! Whereas if you click on my original link, it loads it from my server instantaneously. EDIT: It is loading now but it still seems slower than my server, and still requires a click regardless.

I would backup your data and repartition the drive manually. You can corrupt the boot partition if it fails to work.

Clicking on the inline image expands it fine for me - instantly.

Your server link takes a long time. In fact it's now not loading at all - oh yes there it is - but it took a while , for me anyway.

Thanks

Well now you have two options. :D

Incidentally, I'd be curious to know where you are having problems connecting to my site from. I've had it for near 3 years with never any reports of connection issues from any of my customers. Would you mind sending me a tracert?

And back on topic, of course... any ideas about the partition issue?

Thanks!

Well, I used PerfectDisk 2008 to do a de-frag (even though I had already de-fragged with the Vista tool and Diskeeper), and after that I was able to shrink as much as I needed using Acronis.
