Problem with screen resolution

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC 32 bit that I'm using in dual-boot mode with Windows XP Professional SP2. I am using an old ViewSonic monitor and I don't have the drivers. Windows XP is apparently using a generic driver which lets me set any screen resolution I like and I usually use 1024x768. Windows 7 has a generic driver which will only allow 800x600. Does anyone know if the Windows XP video driver will work in Windows 7 and, if so, the best way to copy and install it?

Its not the monitor - You need to install Windows 7 Drivers for your Graphics Hardware.

A monitor by default uses a Generic PNP Monitor or Generic Non PNP Monitor Driver, either one should not affect what resolution you can run it at. What graphics adaptor do you have? I'd be happy to help you find drivers for it..

Main Machine. Just upgraded my RAM to 8GB. Next task will be to get a new processor for this machine ( 9650 was for my secondary machine )
As Far As I can tell the Graphics Controller is Intel 82865G. Does that help? Is that what you're looking for to be able to find a Windows 7 driver - if it exists??

As you can see below I had no success at the site you mentioned. However, I went to driverguide.com and found a driver for the 865G that worked beautifully and I'm now able to modify the screen resolution at will. So, thank you everyone.
Al G.

I tried the site you suggested and Intel says that they no longer support that graphics driver. However, I use Windows XP Pro on the same machine I'm using Win 7 and Windows xp drivers (whatever they are) allow me to modify the screen resolution. I'd like to try those drivers in Win 7. They may not work but on the other hand they just may. Problem is I'm not sure how to take the drivers out of the Win XP Cabs and put them in the Win 7 system. Worst thing that can happen (I thinkj) is that the system stops working but I will make a restore point before I do anything and then I can probably do a system restore to recover. Does that sound reasonable? Any opther suggestions??
