Problem with my security center.

My internet was acting up unlike it usually does, and in an attempt to get it back to normal, I shut down and restarted my laptop. When I shut it down, vista installed an update. When I turned it back on, not only was the internet (wireless or otherwise) unavailable, but the Security Center was not running, and my audio service was offline. I found a method that was supposed to fix the security center problem. I set the startup type back from disabled to automatic, but when I click 'start' I get "Windows could not start the Security Center service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start." I get the same error message with my network connections. I'm using my desktop right now.

Any help?

Edit: Just tried to run System Restore, and I was unable to. Also tried to back up my hard drive, this won't run either. What is going on???

Hi haplo4,

I have no clue, but would recommend you to run some malware scans as a start anyway. It is always step one when troubleshooting odd issues.

Try the MRT first. Then try one or two of Malwarebytes, Spybot and SuperAntispyware. Do not install anything that run memory resident like TeaTime. Then try some OnLine-scanners.

When you feel confident you are malware free, and this may very well be the case, report back to the forum, and I think someone will be able to help you fix your problem.

Well, umm thanks! but I actually figured it all out on my own. It was just a lot of services that had somehow been disabled. I just need to find some codecs for the audio device.

Good to hear you sorted it out.
