Problem with Mouse Pointer

Hi there

I recently had a power failure whilst working on my PC - I restarted it - but started getting problems - I have put both C and D drives through the Check Disk Utility.

To all intends iand purposes the Pc appears to be workin, except:

1. The Mouse pointer has the `working in the background` - i.e. the revolving circle which goes on for 5 secs then off for 1 sec and back to 5 secs etc.
I have tried changing the pointer but to no avail.

2. I can not delete anything in the C/ directorory Program Files

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated

Have you tried starting in safe mode? If you do, are you getting any of the same issues? Just as a precaution, I'd recommend backing up your files (that is, if you haven't already), in the case that something may happen or that you need to reinstall anything.

Problem with Mouse Pointer and possible C drive

Hi there

The power to my PC was accidently switched off and on - delay about 30 seconds, then I have had all sorts of problems.

1. I got a message that certain files were corrupt - have have since used Check Disk Utilty on both C and D drives and it appears to have cured it.

2. On trying to use the Live Mail it kept asking for my password - I appear to have cured that:D

3. I now have the Mouse pointer with the `working in the background` icon - that is the revolving circle - which goes on and off every second for 5 seconds - I have tried to change it in the Mouse settings in the Control Panel - that is go back to default but it just stays the same.

4. I suspect that there is something amiss in the `C` drive as I have tried to delete a file in the Program Files - it will not delete.

The PC is, to all intents and purposes functioning reasonable well.

I would appreciate any Help/Suggestions

many thanks

Hello there RONS WIN TEAM

Many thanks for your response and sorry for the delay in acknowledging same but I have been away for two (2) days.

In Safe Mode the Mouse Pointer acts as normal, that is it does not have working in the background - when I re-boot the Mouse Pointer is as before.

Yes I BackedUp my system and on reviewing the BackUp Log, It says `UNABLE TO BACKUP 29 FILES`

The system (PC) appears to be operating okay - so it must be something simple that is causing the problem

Would appreciate any futher suggestions/help

Again amny thanks

Jim Merrilees:

You haven't mentioned whether you have tried the System Restore function.

Hi there Ardneh

Many thanks for your reply - much appreciated - Yes -I have tried System Restore (not as good as XP) but seem that I can not get backto a date that I want for example it will only let me go back tgo 14 July 2009 - I want to the 10th and before.
I know that I must be going wrong some where - of course that is to be expected as I am a Mechanical Engineer well passed his sell date ( three score years + 10 and another wee bit. I am not over the moon with Vista - it was not my choice - as my previous PC Crashed/Wiped out and my new PC had VISTA installed - so I am waiting on WINDOWS 7 to go on the market - it can not be any worse than VISTA. Sorry to bore you but I cut my teeth on PC`s with AMIGA`s - enough said

Once again many thanks for your help

There may be some corrupted system files. Try sfc /scannow in cmd (as admin). It may fix the corrupted files.

Hi there Ardneh

Many thanks for your suggestion to us use a CLEAN BOOT - but no joy - as I said the problem is more annoying than anything with the two arrow pointers oscilating between each other. It is not stopping me from operating my PC - so I will leave it for the present.

Many thanks for all your help and assistance

Hi Jim, run command prompt (from all programs > accessories). You have to open it as admin. Then type SFC /SCANNOW (note the space in front of the slash (/). The letters can be caps or small letters. Then press Enter (return).
