Printer Won't Install...

Hello there.

I have been trying to install brother MFC 490cw printer for a while now.
At first, I tried using the CD, it went through all normal installation processes until I was asked to plug the USB port (this USB port is not the one that came with the printer, does that matter...?) - when I plugged it, and turned it on, - as per its instructions and then it also says wait for the installation process to continue - it never continues and just stays like that forever...

So, I tried going to Control Panel, Add a printer... etc I did everything and it got added but it won't print and its status is ''error'' . So that did not work either...

Help Please?

Has this printer ever worked on this machine ?.
Also is your OS x32 bit or x64 bit, i would go to the makers site and download the latest drivers from there, there may be an updated driver for your system.
