Printer Sharing

I want to print microsoft office 2007 documents from my computer running vista on a printer connected to a computer running xp. The two pc's are connected wirelessly through a linksys.

I have read so many forums and have not found any useful answers to my problem. Please help me!!

I have microsoft word 2007 on my vista computer. The XP computer has a printer connected to it by USB. I have a network set up with printer sharing enabled but my vista computer can't find it when I search for printers from control panel>printers. From the Word document when I try to print and click add printer the error pops up reading "The active directory domain service is currently unavailable". When I go to Network>xp computer and get to the printer, I try to click it but get the error "Operation could not be completed. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I have tried restarting both and to no avail i get the same error. I don't know where else to turn. I hope someone can help me!

Hi dougalo7,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Please check out the procedure in the following post (try to ignore the sarcasm): http://www.vistax64.com/network-sharing/123074-printer-sharing-between-vista-xp.html#post1057718. I suspect this may resolve your problem. It may be required to install printer drivers on the Vista machine - but possibly not. If it doesn't work, try installing the drivers and give it another go.

I hope this helps. If not, post back and we'll try some other options.

Good luck!

To set up printer sharing in your home network, you need to configure printer options in the control panel of Windows XP Operating System. You could get a menu while right clicking the printer icon in the Control Panel. From this, you need to select the sharing option. You also need to make sure that you have enabled printer sharing option in the network card properties. To connect a printer in the network you need to set an IP address for your printer. If you have any troubles with printing with your printer in the network it might due to the errors in the network. So, you need to make sure the network connection.
