Have my canon ip4200 connected to a xp pc running fine. I have a laptop running vista and wanted to print to the xp based pc via a dlink network.

The vista laptop sees the printer fine but wont let me print it says its not online even though it prints fine from the pc. I dont want to put vista on the pc as that will cause driver issues with another printer that wont run on vista. Is there a solution - I think maybe a driver issue between xp and vista?

I have a WinXP Pro PC with two HP printers attached via USB cables and was also not able to print from my new Vista laptop. I tried all kinds of things and had no joy until I tried the steps I posted in this thread:

Though it did not work for the OP in that thread, it might work for you as it did me. The key is to install the driver for your Canon printer on the Vista laptop and then connect the printer to the laptop via a USB cable and make sure the printer works with your laptop. Then reconnect the printer to your XP PC and follow the rest of the procedure.

Good luck,

Glad to hear that you're able to print from your laptop now.
