Printer driver problems

I'm trying to install the software for a Cannon printer. (ip1800)
The installation seems to go well but when I plug the printer into my usb port I get error messages such as this:
______________________________
Error Loading
...\W32X86\3\cnmvs8o.dll

Access is denied.

I checked and the file is where it is supposed to be.
Why would my computer deny my printer access to the printer drivers?

This printer, computer and the software has all worked well together previously.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

  • Press the Windows key and R to open the Run dialogue box.
  • Type cmd and press enter and click Continue on the UAC prompt if necessary.
  • Type "takeown /f {full location of file ie. C:\Windows\System 32\Drivers\W32X86\3\cnmvs80.dll}" and press enter.
  • Type "icacls {full location of file ie. C:\Windows\System 32\Drivers\W32X86\3\cnmvs80.dll} /grant:r Everyone:f" and press enter.
Does this fix the issue? Sorry for the confusing commands, but I don't have the full path.

Hello
Thanks for your help.
I tried this.
This is the last command it would take:

"Type "takeown /f {full location of file ie. C:\Windows\System 32\Drivers\W32X86\3\cnmvs80.dll}" and press enter."

Then I get this.

ERROR: The current logged on user does not have ownership privileges on the file (or folder) C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\cnmvs8o.dll

I dont know why this would be.
Its my computer. It is a personal home computer and I am the only one who uses it.

Windows Vista was already installed when I bought this computer new out of the box. Otherwise I would be using something else.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,

The first command should have given you ownership, so make sure you got it correct. However, let's try another tack.

  • Navigate to the file and right click on it and select Properties.
  • Under the Security tab, click Advanced.
  • Under the Owner tab, click Edit.
  • Click "Other Users and Groups".
  • Click Advanced.
  • Click "Find Now".
  • Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  • Click OK THREE times.
  • Click Edit (now on the standard file Property window under the Security tab).
  • Click Add.
  • Click Advanced.
  • Click "Find Now".
  • Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  • Click OK.
  • Single click on Everyone and then tick the "Full Control" box under Allow.
  • Click OK TWO times.
Sorry this is SO confusing! Does this fix your problem?

Hello
Thank you
No, your directions are not confusing at all.

I did ask what you asked and the computer is still denying access to the driver .dll file.
