Powered USB hub fails

I have an issue with my current vista installation of Ultimate SP1 x64 and my Hiyatek 7 port powered usb 2.0-hub. I've been looking for similar problem and solutions but so far neither of them have worked.

The problem is that randomly all usb-devices connected to it will fail and to get windows to recognize them again I need to unplug and reconnect the power and/or USB-cable to the hub. (It's quiet the anoyance to do this and watch while vista takes its time to find your newly connected devices as your party in the game is dying from lack of healing)

I believe this to be a driver issue, I have tried the following without success:

* Remove connected devices and let windows reinstall the hub alone then reboot.
* Install up-to-date bios and chipset drivers.
* Run with different device physical connection setups and different usb-ports.
* Tried hub at other location (Win XP x32 SP2, Latest Ubuntu), both works flawlessly with same setup.
* Checked that the usb-port the hub is connected to actually is usb 2.0
* Removed NFCACHE.1
* Worked my way through all Windows Update releases

Devices I have connected currently (although all are seldom 'used' at once):

* Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
* Logitech MX Revolution
* Logitech USB Michrophone
* Canon Pixma MP600
* Hercules Dualpix HD Webcam
* Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Reciever for Windows
* Sony Ericson w850i usb Connector Cable

I will continue my quest for a solution as to why my setup seemingly randomly fails from time-to-time, I'll try to keep updates coming in case this can help someone else.

Why do you believe it's a driver issue?

If you have another computer handy, you may want to try the USB hub over there for a while.

I have tried this setup with vista 32 SP1 on my computer and I had no problems. Neither did I get any trouble with another computer running XP Pro SP2. I don't really have the luxury to try it out anywhere else at the moment, sadly.

Hardware breaks down sometimes. I have no way to tell whether it's software or hardware, but "random" behaviour of that sort in an external device would not be easy for a driver to cause. My guess is that it would be related to the amount of power being sucked out of the hub - the control circuitry "resets" sometimes depending on its electrical circumstances.

Hi all. I just got a brand new HP desktop with Windows Vista. I run a ham radio (echolink) system here and the radio interface is connected via USB to serial port interface.

From time to time, when the unit keys up my radio, I get a BSOD saying that either hardware or software is causing system error. I also have a USB hub which I used on my old computer.

On the old XP computer, a 500GB USB hard drive would cause stop errors when switched on or pluged in. Now on the new machine the HD works fine but now it's the radio interface connected to the same hub the HD was connected to.

THe new machine has plenty of USB ports so I unplugged the hub thinking that might solve it. Has anyone else out here had these kinds of issues and what solutions have you found that worked? It's frustrating when a <b>brand new</b> computer is crashing 2-3 times a day. I'm hoping getting rid of the hub fixed it, but in the meantime, any suggestions from this group would be appreciated. How close is your transmitter to the computer ? How close is the antenna lead ? This sounds like transmit power is going into your computer via the USB hub.

Note: I am not a ham radio operator, but I did have somewhat similar problems with a US Navy radar aboard ship. The transmit protection circuits had a problem, the radar fried the receiver.

The transceiver is on top of the computer. The antenna coax cable is plugged into the back. The radio's only running 25 watts. I removed the hub and plugged everything into the computer directly and so far so good. Thanks for the reply. I'll keep this forum updated. So far it's lasted 8 hours without a problem since removing the hub.

The second picture is of the windows screen that tries to find an update that will solve the problem. It doesn't find any as the message pictured in the second link goes away without fixing anything. It appears that removing the hub did not slve the problem.
