me again
I have a new system. but heres the thing:

Games made about 10 years ago are laging. This includes Half Life and Colin McRae rally 2.0. I looked at the requirements for the games and here is what CMR 2.0 comes up with

MINIMUM

CPU: 233MHz
RAM: 32MB
Graphics card: 8MB
Directx: 7

MY SPECS ARE

CPU: 3.6GHz
RAM: 1.2 GB a 1gb stick and 256MB stick both running at 200MHz
GRAPHICS CARD: 1024GB dedicated at 700MHz
Directx: 9
OS: XP right now

ANYONE KNOW HOW TO STOP THE LAG. BOTH CPU AND GPU are overclocked. AGP apeture size is set to 32MB. The gpu settings are set for performance but all i get is lag

MY PC EVEN BEATS THE RECCOMENDED REQUIREMENTS FOR CMR 2..

PLZ PLZ PLZ HELP MEEEEE.

I think the settings are fine, there maybe a possibility that what you are seeing on screen isn't lag but something called vertical tearing (even though its often seen as diagonal) but it will be percieved on screen like the monitor cannot catch up to the graphics card, hence you will see the screen morphing every few milliseconds, to fix this, you will need to open up the catalyst control center and find the v-sync (vertical sync) options and set it to on, the games should be running fine once this is set!

No its definatly lag (lag-lagg who cares). I already knew about the v-sync but the games actually LAG, LAGG. Im guessing its either my awful 300w psu or my crap intel celeron 320 clocked at 3.6GHz. It cant even handle battlefield 2.
Anyway the games run smooth until 5mins in it lags like hell. EVEN DVD Movies DO THE SAME

Here is my pcs FULL specs

OS: Windows Vista Home Edition
CPU: Intel Celeron 320 Clocked at 3.6GHz
POWER SUPPLY: 300w ATI reccomends 350w
RAM: 1270MB 1GB + 256MB
GPU: PowerColor Radeon HD 3650 1GB agp
HDD: Seagate 80GB 7200RPM

As i said it could be the psu or the CPU. the ram is fine cuz i got the same on my laptop. Itplays games well with 64MB dedicated. And 1GB as my other 2GB broke.

WTF is wrong

I can't see your CPU being the problem (although it is counted as an everyday budget processor), however if you were to get a new CPU (dual/quad core) you still have the issue of power, you could pick up a cheap power supply at your local computer store or market.

Ditch the 256megs and see what happens.i DON'T THINK ITS RECOMMENDED TO, srry, run like that.

hi thanks all. i will give u rep. i guess i will get a new psu but there r no 478 socket processors running dual apparently. Are psus for 2004 dated mobos still around. im using old school psu with no sata connectors and stuff.

Oh yha, theyre all still good. They have both connectors. Theyre called 4-pin molex or peripherals.

Only thing "New" is the sata power connector, and most main power cables are 20+4 cables.... you detach the extra 4 if you have a 20pin power socket.

You know, I never even thought about the 478 sockets lol, there aren't any dual core 478's. however you could have Hyper Threaded P4? i'd recommend the 3GHz P4 anyday, it served me well when I had one.

Patonb is right, you can get a PSU that is backward compatible with older Motherboards, id recommend something like a 600W or a 650W, that will future proof your system for a while at least.

Hyperthreading is 1 real and 1 virtual core... What happens is the cpu works on 2 things at once. As 1 process takes a break, the second process gets crunched.

2 cores is just that... 2 cpus on 1 chip, with each chip doing its own prrocesses.

2 real cores beats 1 real and 1 virtual.
